El 1 de junio de 2009, Sierra Alpha lanzó su debut Superhero EP en iTunes a través del sello independiente Major-G Records. Su copia física en CD de edición limitada del EP se agotó en las tres semanas posteriores al lanzamiento. Después del lanzamiento de Superhero EP, Goddard tuvo la idea de grabar un EP acústico para mostrar su versatilidad y sonido en vivo. Puro Héroes incluyó tres temas de su EP con un nuevo arreglo que incluía trompeta, saxofón, trompa, violín y violonchelo. Lo grabaron en vivo en la Universidad de Glamorgan, Cardiff. Con los nuevos arreglos tan populares entre los fanáticos, la banda lo ofreció como una descarga gratuita desde Amazon. A medida que aumentó su popularidad, tanto el Reino Unido como los EE. UU. Amazon lo convirtió en "Single of the Day".
