"Comic Book Heroes" fue el segundo trabajo de Rick Springfield. Tanto la portada como el interior del álbum está ilustrado, cada una de las canciones viene representada por una viñeta personalizada.

El disco fue grabado en Londres con sesionistas como Mike Moran, en aquellos días colaborador de Lindsay De Paul, Dave Wintour o el batería Terry Cox (The Pentangle, Duffy's Nucleus , Humblebums...). El disco tuvo muy buenas críticas y escasas ventas pero aún así CBS quiso apovechar el concepto y creó una serie animada para TV con Rick de protagonista, titulada Mission Magic!.
